ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Doune the Rabbit Hole is an intimate, independent music & arts festival located amidst the glorious ancient oak trees of the Cardross Estate, near (Scotland’s ONLY) Lake of Menteith, in Stirlingshire. We started life in 2010, at a site near the town of Doune (hence the name!) and for the last 7 years have been celebrating the very best of Scotland’s independent/DIY arts scene alongside amazing international guests.

Doune The Rabbit Hole Festival is a small scale event taking place in Central Scotland on the weekend of August 18th to 20th 2017.

DSC1038-2Doune the Rabbit Hole is an intimate, independent music & arts festival located amidst the glorious ancient oak trees of the Cardross Estate, near (Scotland’s ONLY) Lake of Menteith, in Stirlingshire. We started life in 2010, at a site near the town of Doune (hence the name!) and for the last 6 years have been celebrating the very best of Scotland’s independent/DIY arts scene alongside amazing international guests. We’ve been honoured to host an extraordinary array of music, art, theatre and spoken word over the years, and 2015 is set to provide more of the same! Along with the pick of Scotland’s musical talent there’ll be workshops for kids and adults, arts, craft producers, and delicious local food and drink suppliers. “ Imagine a festival attended by all walks of life, from toddlers right through to ageing hippies. Imagine a festival small enough that everyone feels comfortable and safe with everyone around them. Imagine a festival where quite often you find DSC1093yourself questioning reality and art and wondering whether the lines of the two have blurred somewhere perfectly in between. You can stop imagining now because this festival already exists...an incredible community-spirited atmosphere other festivals can only dream of.” godisinthetvzine.co.uk DtRH is arguably the smallest festival of its kind in the country, but we’re not only small because we’re young; our size is a vital part of what makes for such a special weekend. With a capacity of only 1000 creating such an intimate, friendly, community atmosphere, you can’t help making friends throughout the weekend. In fact, we know of one couple who met at the festival in 2012 and then got engaged on their anniversary at the festival in 2013 (congratulations)! There's another couple, who met at the festival in 2013, got engaged in 2014 and will get married at the festival in 2016. Hooray!

YVN_9452Each year we aim to bring together a line-up that reflects the amazing diversity of independent music, arts & crafts being produced in Scotland, in a setting and an atmosphere that is totally inclusive. Over the years we’ve had Scottish indie legends The Vaselines/BMX Bandits/The Pastels, Mercury Prize nominees Polar Bear, Scottish Album of the Year winners Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat/RM Hubbert: the list is long! In 2014 Errors, Peatbog Faeries, RM Hubbert and more joined in the fun. With fantastic established acts, others you may not have had the pleasure to hear yet, as well as workshops, master-classes, comedy and poetry plus more tasty food and drink than you can shake a stick at, it’s bound to be a weekend of discovery and pleasure!

Doune the Rabbit Hole is truly family friendly. We also have a special Family Camping area which is positioned away from the late night revellers so you can all get some sleep in before the inevitable early rise! We’re very proud to have been named in various publications as among the best of the family-friendly festivals in the UK.

Getting to Doune the Rabbit Hole

Doune the Rabbit Hole happens on the Cardross Estate in Port of Menteith (SatNav = FK8 3JY).  It’s beautiful but quite remote so the easiest and friendliest way to join us is on the Doune Bus.  We’ve either reduced or kept prices the same as last year and timed the Stirling buses to meet popular trains from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth.  There are also direct buses from and to Glasgow.

Full travel arrangements for our 2017 dates will be published in due course.
