On this trip , we will departing the Faroe Islands and sailing into the North Atlantic, we will be spending at least one night at sea, this will be a great offshore passage, and will be good practice for passage planning and navigation, we will also have to look at the weather as in this area its very unpredictable.

Faroe Flag  The FaroesImage

Situated at 62°00’N, in the North Atlantic in the heart of the Gulf Stream northwest of Scotland half way between Iceland and Norway lie the Faroe Islands. The archipelago consists of 18 rocky, volcanic islands with over 687 miles of coastline which form a rough arrowhead. The Faroe Islands are rugged and rocky with some low peaks and a coastline of plunging cliff faces. The major population centres are Tórshavn, Kirkjubøur, Velbastaður, Nólsoy, Hestur, Koltur, Hoyvík, Argir, Kaldbak, Kaldbaksbotnur, Norðradalur, Syðradalur, Hvítanes, Sund, Kollafjørður, Signabøur and Oyrareingir, and in Klaksvík, the second largest town in the Faroe Islands. The Islands are a walkers and ornithologists paradise.

Iceland Flag  IcelandImage

Iceland can be best described as a land of ice and fire; of light and darkness with days in the summer that last for 24hours at a time, contrasting with long winter nights where daylight only lasts for a few fleeting hours per day. Situated in the North Atlantic Iceland is the westernmost country in Europe and the world’s northernmost capital city and lies almost equidistant between the northwest of Scotland and Norway.

Despite its location, Iceland enjoys a cool, clement climate; refreshing summers and fairly mild winters all thanks to the Gulf Stream.
