The Bible in Art: Families in the Frame

With Rina Wolfson

Thursdays 9th, 16th and 23rd November

At 10.30am to 12.30pm

In this 3-part course, we will look at some of the stories from the book of Bereishit/Genesis through the lens of classical and contemporary artists. Via works by big-hitters such as Rembrandt, Chagall and Caravaggio, as well as work by some lesser known artists, we’ll investigate how these works of art can help us understand and interpret our ancient texts. We’ll examine the dysfunctional three-way marriage of Abraham, Sarah and Hagar, the romantic love-at-first-sight of Isaac and Rebecca, and the sibling rivalry of Jacob and Esau.

No previous knowledge of either the texts or the art is needed to enjoy this course.
