Storytelling Workshop Series

People in the 21st century are hungry for oral storytelling. A hundred years of electronic media forms has disconnected us from one of the most important hallmarks of our humanity. 

Storytelling gives us the ability to entertain, inform, persuade. Storytelling makes us effective in our roles as parents, teachers and leaders. Storytelling connects us with the wisdom of our ancestors and with one another in a community. Storytelling imparts values, unifying our hearts in common purpose and joy.

My name is Deva Winona, and I'm a mother, teacher, and artist. I've been telling stories from folklore in the public schools for over a decade. In all that time, I've been astounded at the remarkable power of storytelling to enchant and engage the mind. Far beyond the power of books, stories told orally vibrate with tangible life in the sacred space between teller and listener. Stories transport us to a field of the imagination, where what is felt with the heart is known to be true. 

Join me for my four-part storytelling workshop series this November. I'm so excited to share dynamic interactive activities designed to bring out the hidden storyteller within each of us. You'll learn the entire process, from selecting a story, to learning it 'by heart,' then orally sharing it with your audience. 

Tuesday November 7 6:30-8:30 
Inner tools: we'll explore the use of memory, creativity, and imagination in storytelling.

Tuesday November 14 6:30-8:30 
Outer tools: we'll explore the use of voice, motion, and gesture in storytelling.

Tuesday November 21 6:30-8:30
We'll learn how to select and prepare a story for telling.

Tuesday November 28 6:30-9:30 
We'll discover more ways to bring stories to life. This last class will culminate in story sharing around a fire, with cocoa and tea.

Cost is $120 for the four part series

This class is open to everyone age 7+. I highly encourage parents to enroll with their child.
