You will meet your crew and instructor for the 5-day practical course at 7pm on the Sunday evening before the course starts on Monday morning. The first evening is relaxed, and a chance to get to know each other over a crew meal ashore. The next morning you will prepare to set sail and you will spend the next 5 days exploring the Solent and South Coast. The route you take and the ports you visit will be weather dependent - and part of the course will cover appropriate route planning.
You will return about 3.30pm on the final Friday.

All mooring fees are included in the course fee, as well as the loan of high quality waterproof jacket and trousers. All day time food and 3 evening meals are included on board, allowing you two evenings to enjoy a meal ashore (the first evening, plus one another). You will also receive an RYA Day Skipper Practical Certificate (Tidal). Please bring a passport photo for your certificate.
Pre-course experience 15 days, 2 days as skipper, 300 miles, 8 night hours
Assumed Knowledge Boat handling to the standard of the Day Skipper practical sail cruising course and navigation to the standard of the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster shorebased course
Course content Passage planning, pilotage by day and night, boat handling, safety and emergency situations
Ability after course Skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day and night
Minimum duration 5 days
You should have at least RYA Day Skipper and preferibly a DS or YM Shorebased course

A regular direct service runs from London Waterloo to Southampton Central. Journey time is approx. 1hr 10 mins. From there about 15 minutes taxi ride – to Red Funnel Ferry and then a short walk.
