Saturday 9th June, 4-6pm - Improvised Groove Music Workshop: Learn to take part in an improvised music ensemble led by a conductor. 'Improvised Groove' is based on the technique devised by Argentinian group ‘La Bomba de Tiempo'. In this fun two-hour introductory workshop you will learn to read the hand signals given by the conductor to guide the improvisation - a form of 'live composing'. There is no genre, but generally rhythmic, danceable music emerges. See 'Improvised Groove' on Facebook for more info. In the evening you can invite friends and family to an event where we will give a short performance. For any type of instrument (plus singers, rappers, beatboxers!) and any level of musician, however you must be comfortable improvising basic parts, know some basic scales and be able to play without looking at your instrument. Bring your own instrument (and amplification if required). Advance booking essential. Your ticket for the workshop includes entry to the evening gig.

Saturday 9th June, 7-11pm - Live Music: Drums & Xylophones from Ghana + Improvised Groove Jam Session: Come and explore the hypnotic traditional rhythms of Ghana with percussion and xylophone ensembles led by Ben Lawrence. In the early 90’s Ben studied drumming and xylophone in West Africa, now returning annually to Ghana, learning from some of the country's leading performers and teachers. There will also be an improvised performance from the participants in our Improvised Groove workshop. Expect the unexpected and get your dancing shoes on!
