The annual Round the Island Race, organised by the Island Sailing Club, is a one-day yacht race around the Isle of Wight, an island situated off the south coast of England. The race regularly attracts over 1,400 boats and around 15,000 sailors, making it one of the largests yacht races in the world and the fourth largest participation sporting event in the UK after the London Marathon and the Great North and South Runs.
Competitors come from all over the UK, other parts of Europe and as far away as the USA to follow the 50 nautical mile course round the Isle of Wight. Starting on the famous Royal Yacht Squadron line in Cowes, the fleet races westabout, to The Needles, round St Catherine's Point and Bembridge Ledge buoy, and back into the Solent to the finish line at Cowes.
we would set sail on our exciting performance yacht, we aim to get you all involved in the sailing and soon land lubbers under expert tuition soon become skilled in the ways of the sea. You do not have to have any previous sailing experience to really enjoy the thrill of sailing in the fast paced race.

Cloudy Bay Round The Island Race
Our Round the Island Race event starts at 10.00 Friday morning when after meeting the rest of the team will set out for a busy training day on the water and get to know the Yacht and your crew for famous race. after our day we will moor up in Cowes to enjoy an early night!
Race Day:
We will have an early start to our race day with the first fleet heading off at 6.30 am. The start of the race is heading West towards the Needles Lighthouse at the western tip of the Isle of Wight. Where speed, wind angle and collision avoidence will be our priority. As we turn the first corner we will hoist the Spinnaker and head down the 'Back of the Wight' initially towards St Catherines Lightouse then on to Bembridge at the Eastern end of the Island then the final beat tacking up the Solent back to Cowes and the finish line. You will get to experience close quarters yacht racing as well as watching the rest of the fleet finish behind you.
After the race we will have a a well earned drink and enjoy the exciting buzz in the town that only a race of this size can generate.
There are no pre-requisites for this race, and no previous sailing experience is required.
The Team
The Race circumnavigates the Isle of Wight which is around 65 miles. We like everyone to be involved sailing the yacht as we are racing around and not cruising and the 65 miles will give everyone time to experience all aspects of racing.

A regular direct service runs from London Waterloo to Southampton Central. Journey time is approx. 1hr 10 mins. From there about 15 minutes taxi ride – to Red Funnel Ferry and then a short walk.
