Amsterdam Adventure

Enjoy a 14 day leisurely trip from Cowes to Amsterdam on board Yacht Discovery a 72 foot category ‘0’ vessel with an highly experienced skipper and first mate. Our journey begins on 1st July 2019 in Cowes and takes in ports of call along the south coast with time ashore before heading out across the English Channel along the Dutch coast into the North Sea, then via the North Sea Canal into the centre of Amsterdam.  Spending two days at leisure in Amsterdam before retracing our steps back to Cowes arriving on day 14.

Eastbourne

Eastbourne is a popular and thriving seaside resort on the south-east coast of England, famous for its impressive seafront Victorian hotels, 1930’s bandstand, impressive pier opened in 1870 and grand parade. Eastbourne offers visitors safe and clean beaches, numerous seafront restaurants and is home to the annual international tennis tournament and the international 4 day air-show held every August.  The town centre is located approximately 5 minutes' walk inland from the bandstand and pier and offers a good variety of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.  Sovereign Harbour Marina is a brisk walk away.

Ramsgate

Ramsgate has been a popular seaside resort since the 19th Century with a rich maritime heritage. Today it mixes this strong maritime tradition with fine architecture, its unique and stunning Royal Harbour, blossoming arts scene, traditional market, harbour side café culture, intimate cafés, friendly pubs and a lively night life.

Lowestoft

Lowestoft on the North Sea coast is the most easterly town in Britain with its award winning blue badge wide sand beaches and pier. Being situated close to Oulton Broad [see picture] the gateway to the Norfolk Broads, the area is renowned for its all year round water sports and great selection of cafes, riverside restaurants and bars and Edwardian Park.  Lowestoft Marina is situated close to the town centre.

Amsterdam

The vibrant and cosmopolitan city of Amsterdam; the Netherlands capital city is the star attraction on this 14 day adventure on board Discovery.  The city is famous for its nightlife, canal network, attractions and museums and art galleries. Amsterdam offers a fantastic choice of cafes, canal side bars, bistros and restaurants offering a wonderful choice of food from Michelin star restaurants to tapas, Indonesian, Mediterranean and traditional Dutch cuisine. 

• Example Itinerary
  • Day 1 – Departing Cowes we spend the rest of the day at sea as we sail along the coast to Eastbourne, 
  • Day 2 - At leisure in Eastbourne
  • Day 3 - leaving on the tide we travel further along the south coast heading for Ramsgate
  • Day 4 – today we spend a leisurely day in Ramsgate with free time ashore, 
  • Day 5 – Leaving Ramsgate we continue our journey, taking turns at navigation and on watch to Lowestoft.
  • Day 6 - We are free to go ashore and spend time in Lowestoft.
  • Day 7 – Departing Lowestoft we head out in to the English Channel for the journey to Amsterdam.
  • Day 8 - 10 Amsterdam, enjoy extended time ashore to explore Amsterdam
  • Day 11– Departing Amsterdam we retrace our journey along the North Sea Canal to IJMUIDEN 
    
  • Day 12 - Leaving Ramsgate, we sail along the coast to Eastbourne, 
  • Day 13 – We set sail on the final leg of our voyage as we head for Cowes and our home port.
  • Day 14 - After our final breakfast on board, we say our farewells and depart Discovery for the final time.
  
  

  Important Please Read

  Spending a long period on-board a yacht in a relatively confined space with unfamiliar crew is a challenge and should not be undertaken lightly. Please consider this before deciding to join us on our adventure. Whilst undertaking the passage Amsterdam everybody on board will be expected to take a full and active role in the running of the vessel including sail hoists, helping with preparing food, cleaning the yacht, as well as helping to come alongside and secure the yacht. If getting hands on is not your thing then this adventure is probably not for you. This trip will also involve some overnight sails where watch systems will be set out for the crew and everyone will be expected to take part.

  Your safety is our highest priority so we insist that whilst on deck life jackets are worn at all times. whilst on passage and to meet our timetable we will be using the engines as required to meet our programme. 

  We may decide to change our ports and departure times at short notice when weather dictates.

  We take your safety and that of the vessel extremely seriously and as such we reserve the right to alter or amend itineraries in the case of bad weather, tide or Foreign Office/Maritime Agencies advice.
