Course Facilitator: Jo Howson

Whether you're new to Stagecoach teaching or just need a refresh on great practice, this new two-part workshop explores theory and practice through engaging activities and professional conversations to support excellence in performing arts teaching and learning!

Part 1 builds on great teaching skills and addresses some of the challenges in facilitating engaging lessons such as effective grouping, planning for all abilities and class control within a creative environment.

In Part 2 you will be nurtured through the basics of group organisational strategies to support Singers, Dancers and Actors in their classroom management and pace encouraging the best behaviours for learning from all students.

Attendees will receive a Certificate of Completion after participating in Part 1 and Part 2 of the teacher workshops.

Facilitator: Jo Howson BA (Hons) MSc QTS

Jo Howson was Head of Drama of at a school in East London for a number of years and holds over 10 years of teaching experience. She has won the national GTC Teacher award for Excellence in Professional Development and the Jack Petchy Award for Outstanding Service to Young People. She holds Qualified Teacher Status, a Distinction from a Masters Degree course in Performance Research from Central School of Speech and Drama and a First Class Degree in Literature and Theatre Studies from the University of Warwick. Jo is passionate about teaching that helps students realise the value of their own creativity. Drama can help challenge students' perceptions about themselves and the world around them and celebrate both the successes and failures in performance, helping the students to grow. She believes outstanding Drama teaching equips students with a joy and confidence that radiates in every role, character or part they play. This can be life-changing!
