This session is aimed at UofG staff who have front-line interactions with students and the public.
The Deaf Awareness part of the session will include:
The session will help staff recognise if someone is D/deaf and teach them the correct terms used to describe D/deaf people. Staff will receive some basic communication tactics, and be given advice such as how to get the environment right.
Staff attending will also have the opportunity to suggest and learn some key words/phrases or topics that will benefit them in their University roles.
The fun, interactive and informative session will be delivered by a fully qualified trainer who themselves are Deaf and uses BSL as their first language. They will be accompanied by a BSL interpreter. A range of methods including PowerPoint presentation, group work and handouts will be used during the session.
Refreshments will be provided during the break.
Please note: Numbers are very restricted due to the nature of the subject. Please ensure you have any required line-management permission and are able to attend before booking your spot.
