The University of Glasgow is delighted to host Professor Sarah Marshall, the Wellcome Trust's Head of Clinical and Physiological Sciences on 7th November 2019 at 1pm in the Yudowitz Lecture Theatre, Wolfson Medical School Building. We look forward to what should be an interesting and insightful lecture, entitled: Pathways to Wellcome funding for clinician scientists.

Background

Professor Sara Marshall joined the Wellcome Trust in 2016 as Head of Clinical and Physiological Sciences.  She obtained her medical degree from the National University of Ireland and worked as a junior doctor in Dublin before going to Stanford University, California as a fellow in Lung Transplantation.  She completed her training in clinical immunology in 1998 and has a PhD from the University of Cambridge in Immune Tolerance.  She held an MRC Clinician Scientist award at the University of Oxford and was then a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Imperial College where her research interests focused on the genetics of transplantation and inflammatory diseases.  Prior to joining Wellcome, she was Professor of Clinical Immunology at the University of Dundee, where she was also Director of the Dundee Clinical Academic Track and Deputy Head of Research & Development for NHS Tayside.

The Clinical and Physiological Sciences portfolio includes Wellcome’s investments in Clinical Careers.  These comprise the Clinical PhD programmes, and the Clinical Research Career Development Fellowships as well as smaller schemes.
