Composition journals became popular in classrooms and with writers because of their durability. These journals are bound the way books are; large pieces of paper are folded in half, then the type my essay and papers are sewn together at the crease. The stitches are then covered with tape or another protective substance to keep them safe. This process ensures that the papers are tightly held in place, unlike spiral or perforated notebooks.
Where Can You Get a Composition Journal?
Composition journals are most often used by students and writers, so they are easiest to find at stores and suppliers that cater to these groups. You can find composition journals at major office supply stores, such as Staples, Office Depot, and Office Max. However, if you plan to use these journals frequently, it may make more sense to buy them in bulk. You can place bulk orders with educational supply companies or look for resources through writers' unions and catalogs.
In film, there is a rule: Establish everything. In grammar, the same rule applies. Overusing pronouns can kill your ability to establish what it is you mean to say. Often, a paper might open with a sentence like, "We are responsible for the majority of global warming." Well, who is "we?" Is it humans? Perhaps it is Americans. Is it your English 101 class? While the logical answer might be humanity, you still have left your audience guessing. Always check to see what it is you have established, and on what details your audience will have to guess.
Are There Other Options?
There are some reasons why a composition journal might not be the best choice for you. Some writers prefer paper that can easily be torn out of the notebook, which can be difficult and messy with a composition journal. If that's the case, consider a perforated notebook or a legal pad instead. You might find that an unruled notebook works better or something smaller that can easily be slipped into a pocket. Luckily, there are other types of notebooks designed with those uses specifically in mind.
If you're working on a project and think it might be easier to finish using pen and paper, a composition journal might be just what you need. These journals make writing easy and their durability means your work will be protected for years to come. Composition journals lend themselves to certain uses such as lab books, long form writing, and personal diaries.
