Preparing for research fieldwork

Monday, November 2, 2020

What you need to know

These four sessions will allow for discussion and peer support, and are intended for any PGRs or ECRs planning research fieldwork.

They are open to researchers from any College so won't focus on a particular type of fieldwork, or methodologies. Instead, we will be looking at planning and logistics, risk and personal safety, wellbeing, or other topics that you would like to discuss.

Although we will have experienced staff introducing and facilitating the sessions, it wont be a lecture. We ask that you look through our online course on research fieldwork to cover some of the basic information you need, in advance of these sessions.

These are a pilot, so please let us know what would be most helpful in our online form, so we can build that in and co-create these sessions with you.

We also know that, in some cases, you might want to ask daft questions or share concerns. Or perhaps you once did something on a fieldwork trip before, which, in hindsight, makes you feel a bit stupid! These things are all completely ok to share in these sessions. They will not be recorded and we ask that no-one shares any stories or names outside of the forum. However, with all that in mind, if you think a session with no staff present would be helpful, please let us know. (Elizabeth.Adams@Glasgow.ac.uk)

You can come to all or just one of these sessions but please sign up using the link below, so you get reminder emails and can complete the questionnaire.

Let us know if you require evidence of participation for PGR training credits (not required for all Colleges).
