What you need to know

Gosport Marine Festival is a free community event, showcasing the wealth of water-based activities on offer on the Gosport peninsula. There are hundreds of on the water taster sessions available to give people of all ages the chance to try out a new sport, among them dinghy sailing, kayaking, Trinity rowing, windsurfing, stand up paddle-boarding (SUP), tall ship sailing and, for those who feel the need for speed, RIB rides. Wetwheels, the fully accessible power boat will be able to accommodate up to three wheelchair users in each session.

In Haslar Marina we’ll have a host of historic vessels and performance racing yachts to visit. These include Gypsy Moth IV, built at Camper and Nicholson in Gosport 59 years ago and the first yacht to be sailed single-handed around the world.

The Turk Trophy will be contested by dinghy sailors the weekend prior to Gosport Marine Festival, while yachts of 26 feet or more will take part in the Gosport Peninsula Charity Pursuit on the day of the Festival itself. This is a fun chase around the Solent where the teams enjoy a day out on the water and raise money for local good causes.

There is also a food festival on Haslar Pier, live entertainment in Timespace, kids club, nautical art, craft and photography fair in Holy Trinity Church, Vane 36 National Model Yacht Championships on Cockle Pond and an onshore exhibition and showcase on Trinity Green including sail and water sports training, water safety, career and education opportunities.
