Evidence suggests that preparing your staff to welcome each other and your children back through a universal trauma-informed approach will equip your school to respond to the complex needs of its community.

The Mobilise team will be facilitating 3 one-hour virtual sessions on how staff can prepare for the return of staff and pupils, who may be experiencing grief or loss (whether that is the loss of a family member, loss of routine, loss of friendship, loss of certainty or anxiety at leaving home).

The Mobilise PLC-model will facilitate professional dialogue and sharing of ideas based on evidence, which can be adapted to your school’s context. An extensive range of tools and strategies for a trauma-informed approach will be explored. Discussion will centre on evidence-based reading, sent in advance to focus on:

Session 1 (24th & 25th March 2021) - Trauma-informed Transition, including co- and self-regulation; schools should decide who is the most appropriate member of SLT/pastoral team to attend the session.

Session 2 (28th & 29th April 2021) – Staff Well-being raising awareness of secondary trauma and supervision; the session is aimed specifically at your school’s senior leaders, who have overall responsibility for staff well-being.

Session 3 (19th & 20th May 2021) – Behaviour as Communication and the importance of a relational/restorative approach; risk and protective factors and strategies will be explored to enhance staff and parents’ understanding and response that will support children and young people as they re-adjust to life back in school.  Schools should decide who is the most appropriate member of staff to attend the session.

All sessions run 11am to 12pm via Zoom.

The Mobilise PLC-model can be adapted to support wider dissemination of the session to all staff in school.  Follow-up slides will also be available with key points and practical strategies to support your school through transition.

This 3-part series was positively received by over 500 participants in 2020 in Lincolnshire. The Mobilise team is now offering the series to support Trusts around the UK.
