This session is aimed at EYFS Leads and Teachers, although Phonic & English Leads and SENDCos may also wish to attend. KS1 Practitioners working with children who have a high level of Literacy and/or Speech, Language & Communication Need may also wish to attend.
Within this session we look at which skills feed directly into Phonic Readiness. For those we already target through Phase One, we will discuss how practice can become much more targeted and incremental. Most fundamentally, we will discuss other skill strands that feed directly into readiness (such as sequential auditory memory, conceptual understanding and visual skills) but which are not covered by Phase One.
By doing so, the intention is that we ‘pad out’ Phase One, creating a broader base for Phonic Readiness and later progression, whilst also taking children’s starting points and language needs into consideration.
