What you need to know

Weekend Intensive

22, 23 May

10:00 - 17:00 each day

Funny Bones

Led by Fourth Monkey Clown teacher Amy Gwilliam, this is a terrific opportunity to find and foster your clown. In pursuing our clown, we are gifted back spontaneity, wonder, vulnerability and radiance - on stage and off!

Through a range of comic techniques and unbridled physical play, Amy will encourage you to discover your uniquely funny bones. By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • grasp the fundamental rhythms behind clowning
  • understand the basic foundations of comic play and timing
  • build comic rapport and an ability to interact with the audience
  • expand your emotional and physical range
  • foster improvisation and devising skills
  • be able to transform improvised material into rehearsed solo and/or ensemble performance
  • shine in failure
  • and shine!

Amy is a theatre maker and facilitator, passionate about what it means to be a creative human, and how to be one. Her most recent work - including Frankie Foxstone a.k.a. The Profit, MUMMY, and the upcoming Oh My Goddess! - are site-specific, intimate and/or interactive. Following a degree in English at Cambridge University, she trained for 2 years with Philippe Gaulier, with additional short trainings with Peta Lily, Complicité, Spymonkey, Told by an Idiot, SITI Company, Song of the Goat, Cardboard Citizens and at Ecole Jacques Lecoq. In 2010 she co-founded Teatro Entre Escombros in Spain, making and touring award-winning shows there for 4 years. Now based in London, Amy is one of The Mono Box's longest standing facilitators, curating the European Theatre Week, as well as the current Mono Makers Month. She regularly teaches at Fourth Monkey, East 15, Drama Studio London and London Studio Centre. She is an active member of Clowns Without Borders, and a core facilitator for Theatre for a Change. Amy also often works behind the scenes - as dramaturg, director and/or co-writer - with a particular attraction to clown, satire and black comedy. www.amygwilliam.com
