This is a free session aimed at KS1 Teachers, although Phonic and English Leads and SENDCos may also wish to attend. Reception Teachers and EYFS Leads should also attend, as they start the process of noticing gaps and begin to tackle issues with progression.
Within this session we will talk about many of the Skill Strands that were discussed within Session One. However, this time, these skills will be considered in relation to older children where ongoing gaps have become barriers to learning and progression.
We will focus on Phonics, especially looking at the likely skill barriers for blending and phoneme-grapheme-correspondence knowledge. We will touch on issues such as Reading Comprehension, Reading Fluency and Writing but the main focus will be Phonics for Reading.
Ideas to diagnostic assessments in order to identify skill gaps and then to plan informed interventions will be discussed.
