Overview of the Programme ( Meeting the 5 pillars):

This programme supports and empowers SENCos to become strategic in navigating a complex, potentially time-consuming role. It is suitable for those recently qualified SENCos and those SENCos wanting to refresh their practice, or work with colleagues to reflect on the provision in their setting and the wider education community.

Throughout the programme, delegates will be expected to engage with research, evidence-informed reviews and recommendations and participate in self-review activities. Throughout the project, we will support delegates in following the principles identified in the "EEF Putting Evidence to Work: A School's Guide to Implementation" both in the project training and implementation back in school.

Session 1: - The role of the SENCo - Code of practice, Ofsted requirements, Governance. Teachers Handbook: SEND.

Session 2: - Graduated Approach from early identification to Education, Health & Care Plans. (Recommendations 3,4 & 5, EEF SEND in mainstream)

Session 3: - Strategic Leadership of SEND (EEF-Making best use of TA’s IV, V & VI / Great Expectations – David Bartram(2018))

Session 4: - Local SEND relationships/opportunities. Working with parents and careers (LPCF)
WSS Ask, Listen, Do: A guide to making conversations count for all families (2020)

Session 5: - From Policy to Practice, planning for whole school impact and accountability. (Great Expectations – David Bartram(2018))

Session 6: - Preparing for adulthood. What next?¼¼ (Whole School SEND - Preparing for Adulthood from The Earliest Years (PFA))

Between each session there will be gap tasks. These tasks will include the review and reflection of current provision, research/audit activities to conduct back in school and the sharing of findings at future sessions. The specialist will support and challenge the delegates to consider the next steps required to meet the recommendations from the various evidence sources, enabling them to link theory and practice in their own provision, leading to future proofing inclusive education.  There will be recommended reading of identified research and evidence throughout the project ready to support informed discussions.

What impact will this programme have?

There has been evidence captured by the Lincolnshire High Needs Transition team that identifies the need to support newly qualified SENCOs. The intended impact of this project is to support and empower SENCOs in raising the profile and accountabilities of "Every leader is a leader of SEND, every teacher is a teacher of SEND", closing the gap between pupils identified with SEND and their peers.
