'Carpentry and Tools skills day' an event for Dorset residents aged 14-25 with special educational needs or a disability   

Have you wondered what you are going to do for a living?

Are you interested in working with your hands, and creating wonderful things?

Many young people don't get the opportunity to learn to use tools correctly and safely, and don't get the chance to try their hand at making things. You can find it tricky to get the right experience, or just to have a go and see whether you like it. 

Based in the workshop at Magdalen Farm, we're going to spend the day making things with wood, and using both high powered tools and more simple hand tools. We will provide googles and ear defenders etc (in case you don't like loud noises), and help you use the workshop tools. You might already be skilled in the workshop, or you may never have picked up a screwdriver. It doesn't matter - this is open to anyone to have a go.

The plan is to make both small individual achievements and a big group achievement:

• bird boxes for you to take home, where you can put them on a wall or up in a tree.   
• picnic tables for visitors to use when they come to Magdalen Farm.

We will give you a delicious lunch to say thank you for your work.

Children must be accompanied by parents / carers / drivers who can stay on site and drink tea
