An early morning walk around Carymoor to hear and learn about the birds that have made this former landfill site their home
Friday, 21st April 2023
at 6:00am
– Doors open at 5:45am
Carymoor Environmental Centre
Join us for an early morning wander around our beautiful nature reserve and hear the birds that have made this former landfill site their home. You can also learn about our Nightingale Project and how we are managing the land to attract this once rare bird back to the area.
Local expert Roger Dickey, former chair of the Somerset Ornithological Society will be leading the walk.
The walk will cover approximately 1.5miles of the reserve- some of the ground is uneven and it may be wet so please wear suitable footwear and clothing and don't forget your binoculars if you have them.
Refreshments are available at the end of the walk or join us for breakfast* (*extra charge - please book your breakfast at the same time so we know how many people to cater for).
Please contact us at jackie.gage@carymoor.org.uk if you have any questions.
The ticket price helps support our education and conservation work. Thank you!

The post code for the Carymoor Environmental Centre is BA7 7NR. If using Google Maps please search for Dimmer Landfill Site near Castle Cary, as we share the same main gate.
By road: Coming off the B3153 on to Dimmer Lane, you’ll see a sign for the Dimmer landfill site and Recycling Centre. Follow this road until you come to a farm on a left hand bend and turn immediately right. You’ll see the signs here for the Dimmer site and for Carymoor. At the end of this road you’ll pass the recycling centre on your right and come to the main gate of the landfill site.
This gate will be locked at the time of this event but there will be a member of staff from Carymoor there between 5.45am and 6am to let you in. (Please contact me on my mobile number 07966 402391 if you think you may be late).
Keep going up over the hill, past a large compost operation on your left, and at the bottom of the hill you’ll see the centre and the car park on the left hand side.
