Loneliness and social isolation are harmful to our health: research shows that lacking social connections is as damaging to our health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
Yet the extent of the risk to public health from loneliness is still not being tackled sufficiently by policy makers, health or care providers or the general public.
Through the vehicle of an independent campaign, we seek to tackle loneliness in older age. With 600 organisations supporting our ambition to challenge a hidden, yet chronic problem affecting almost three million older people in the UK today, the Campaign to End Loneliness works in three ways to tackle loneliness in older age:
If you believe loneliness in older age must be tackled, join the Campaign to End Loneliness.
The Campaign’s five partner organisations are Age UK Oxfordshire, Independent Age, Manchester City Council, Royal Voluntary Service and Sense.
