What you need to know

This is an in-person event for UofG Staff and Students Only.  A valid UofG Staff or Student email address is required to book your ticket.

When it comes to projects aimed at understanding the lives of marginalised communities, it becomes crucial to scrutinise whether these methods truly capture the full spectrum of experiences within these communities. Do the methods we select treat the most marginalised voices with equal weight as those less marginalised within these minority groups?

The methods we wield can inadvertently shape our perceptions of the very groups we seek to comprehend, potentially perpetuating certain constructed notions about them. Come along to this informal workshop to find out more about qualitative and quantitative methodologies - as well as diversifying representation in research. For this workshop, we'll be joined by expert guest Dr Kevin Guyan!

Dr Kevin Guyan is a researcher and writer whose work explores the intersection of data and identity. He is the author of Queer Data: Using Gender, Sex and Sexuality Data for Action (Bloomsbury Academic), which examines the collection, analysis and use of gender, sex and sexuality data, particularly as it relates to LGBTQ people in the UK.

Kevin currently works as a Research Fellow in the School of Culture and Creative Arts at the University of Glasgow. In 2016, Kevin completed a PhD in History at University College London and has worked on several equality, diversity and inclusion projects across the UK and Europe.
