What you need to know

About KUF Awareness

The awareness level programme is the foundation element of the Knowledge and Understanding Framework and provides students with the underpinning knowledge and understanding required to work more effectively with service users with a diagnosis of personality disorder. The awareness level modules have been designed with underpinning principles to guide the activities and learning.

The KUF awareness training is a national programme commission by The Department of Health and the Ministry of Justice and developed by Institute of Mental Health, Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust, Emergence and Open University, to help support the needs and reduce the stigma of someone with a diagnosis of a personality disorder.

With the growing information about personality disorders in the last 12  years, the KUF training supports individuals to gain skills and confidence in working effectively with people who have a diagnosis of personality disorder and eliminate the myths surrounding the diagnosis.

This course is not just for professionals and welcome participants who have lived experience of a personality disorder either for themselves or through a close friend or family member. If you would like to attend and have lived experience it is important that you feel you at the right point of recovery to gain the best from the course.

The structure of the course is three facilitated training days  (the three days of the course) as well as completion of online modules. These modules support and develop your understanding of aspects of personality disorder.

The modules are to be completed in between the facilitated training days. Your facilitators will guide you as to which modules need to be completed at which points. The modules in total can take between 6 - 10 hours to complete over the four week period. Some employees are able to complete the modules at work, some have an agreement with their line managers for time in lieu if the modules are completed at home.
