There is plenty of parking and good access for disabled customers and those with mobility issues. The Centre is accessed via a short ramp to the reception area; once inside all amenities are on one level including the Gallery and Studio; there is an accessible toilet on ground level.
By car
Approximately 20 minutes drive south of Whitehaven, we are easily accessible from the A595 at the Thomas Cross roundabout in Egremont. Please note the mine is signposted off the A595 but turn immediately left when you exit the Thomas Cross roundabout and then immediately left again. The Arts Centre is about 700 yards down the end of the single-track road.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you’re visiting Florence Mine by car from the south don’t rely on Sat-Nav or Google/computer maps to get you here. They will advise you to leave the M60 at Junction 36 and go across the south of the county via the A590/A5092. Although picturesque, this will take you through the southern mountains on single roads – the much better option is to continue to junction 40 of the M6, then take the 66 to Workington and drop down via Whitehaven and the A595. It’s marginally longer but one hell of a lot quicker/easier.
Public transport
Regular rail services run from Carlisle in the north and Barrow-in-Furness in the south (with onwards links from Newcastle, Glasgow, Lancaster and Manchester etc.) Our nearest stations geographically are St Bees and Nethertown, however, you may prefer to use Whitehaven which has better links to bus services to and from Egremont.
The #30 bus runs regularly between Egremont and Whitehaven, Workington and Maryport.
For full rail service information click here for the Northern Rail website.
For full bus service information click here for the Cumbria County Council website.
By bicycle and on foot
It is also worth noting that Florence Arts Centre is a short walk or cycle from Egremont town centre: walk down South Street, cross the River Ehen and continue along Vale View. Turn left up a footpath / cycle route between the houses (Little Mill), opposite the petrol station. Continue under the underpass and Florence Arts Centre is a few yards further on.
