Welcome to Yacht Discovery
Yacht Discovery is a little adventure ship. Let's make the world feel big again! There's nothing quite like setting off on an adventure to some of the less visited destinations in the world like Iceland or Svalbard. On board you will be very much part of the team. You will be very hands on, whether it's On Watch, Sailing, Cooking or Collecting Firewood.
ATLANTIC RALLY FOR CRUISERS LAS PALMAS - ST. LUCIA
Do you want to be a part of the biggest trans-ocean rally or race in the world?
The ARC is a ‘must do’ for many sailors, and attracts over 200 boats and 1200 people every year to sail 2700 NM across the Atlantic from Gran Canaria to Saint Lucia. the largest Trans Ocean race of its kind in the world.
More than just a boat race, the ARC is about friendships made ashore in the two weeks of pre-departure activities continued over the radio net at sea. It’s about arriving in Saint Lucia to be met on the dock with a rum punch and a chilled beer, knowing you have achieved something fantastic - crossing an ocean on a small sailboat.
In November, the world famous Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) Transatlantic begins – 250 yachts will set sail from Las Palmas in Gran Canaria to sail across the Atlantic Ocean – will you be on one of them?
This race is a bucket list item for many and is about so much more than racing.
Over 1,200 come together in the spirit of adventure and friendship. Just imagine what it is to be a part of that! And just in case you doubt your sea worthiness, ARC is for everyone. The hard core racers, big and small boats, families and children – and you!
ARC takes advantage of the North East Trade Winds and travels across the tropics. It’s one of the most civilised ways to cross the Atlantic.
Expect a 2,700 mile crossing that most sailors only dream of. Sail non-stop through the tropics as you go from the Canary Islands to the Caribbean’s St. Lucia. The rally takes place in November, which allows you to leave behind the winter weather and those cold U.K. nights for what will certainly be one of the most memorable events of your life!
This ARC package comes with a six-day preparation as well as a training course which takes place in Gran Canaria and runs back to back with the ARC. You can expect the passage time to be as long as three weeks and as short as two weeks.
As with any serious adventure, this one comes with some pre-requisites. A minimum of 20 days yachting experience is essential. The training course prior to the race covers familiarisation, safety drills, navigation, ocean management, and more. You’ll be well prepared and ready to go by the start day.
We take your safety and that of the vessel extremely seriously and as such we reserve the right to alter or amend itineraries in the case of bad weather, tide or Foreign Office/Maritime Agencies advice.
