Enjoy a stay on a working organic farm with your family

Sample itinerary for the Families on the Farm Sleepover


Timings may be subject to change

 

Day 1 

10.00  Arrive

Welcome and Health & Safety Talk

 

10.15  Settling into bedrooms

Bedrooms will be pre-allocated. Enjoy time unpacking and making your beds (linen provided).

 

11.00  Goat Walking

            We will take the goats out for a gentle stroll around the farm.

 

11.30  Scavenger Hunt and Natural Art

            Can you find all of the items on our scavenger hunt list and use them to make a natural work of art?

 

12.30  Sensory Activities in the Courtyard

            Make your own smelly potions, have a go at decorative leaf bashing or even create your own natural stick on photo frame!

 

1.00    Lunch

A selection of sandwich fillings will be available for visitors to make their own sandwiches. This will be accompanied by e.g. a flapjack and fruit.

 

2.00    River Raft Building & Racing, plus river dipping (subject to river conditions)

            Design and build a raft which will be capable of carrying a teddy bear in a wild race down a safe stretch of the River Axe. We will then use nets to catch and identify some of the living creatures in the river.

 

3.30    Free Time

            A chance to relax, enjoy a drink and to change out of any soggy socks!      

 

4.00    Farm Jobs

We will do some work on the farm involving tools and muscles! It may be digging, it may be wheel-barrowing, it will definitely involve energy!

 

5.15    Pig Feeding and Free Time

            A chance to take the pigs their afternoon feed and check on their wallows.

 

6.00    Supper (Magdalen staff to depart)

Supper will be a wholesome, tasty two-course meal. Some food will have come from the farm, and we try to use as much local, free-range and organic food as possible.

 

7.00    Film Night in the Granary

            Magdalen staff will set up a projector in the Granary for the group to enjoy a film. Families are welcome to bring along their own DVDs to choose from, or Magdalen have a small selection of age appropriate films that can be borrowed.

           

 

Day 2 

8:30    Breakfast

Breakfast consists of a variety of cereals, juice and toast, and every other day there will be a cooked course e.g. eggs and beans. Visitors are encouraged to eat a hearty breakfast.

 

9.30    Animal Jobs

The group will assist with any animal related jobs that need doing on the farm. This will include letting out the chickens, collecting their eggs, feeding the pigs and checking on the goats and horses.

 

11.00  Break time

With light refreshments and snacks

 

11.30  Magdalen Farm Olympics

            Try your hand at:

-       Apple Archery

-       “Wellie Wanging”

-       Hole in one

-       And more….

1.00    Lunch

As per yesterday.

 

2.00    Woodland Adventure

Create your own tribe and practice building a den, or lighting a fire without matches. This will include a break for us to enjoy a snack and a hot chocolate around the fire!

 

4.30    Pig Feeding

The group will have the chance to take the pigs their afternoon feed and check their wallows.

 

5.00    Free Time

  

5.30    Pizza Making for Supper 

The group will make their own tasty pizzas and cook them in the outdoor cob oven. This will be accompanied by potato wedges and salad from the kitchen.

 

7.00    Campfire

We will gather around a small fire to tell stories, sing songs and toast some marshmallows. If it’s a clear night we can have a go at star gazing!

 

8.00    Magdalen Staff Leave and Free Time

 

Day 3 

All beds need to be stripped down and if possible visitors should start packing before breakfast to allow for more activity time after breakfast. 

All bedrooms need to be packed up and emptied by 10am.

9.15    Packing Time

 

10.00  Craft Activity

            An opportunity to make a memento of your visit to Magdalen. These could include:

-       Woodland Medallions

-       Clay Animals

-       Nature Crowns

10.45  Feedback

 

Snacks and drinks are provided in the morning and afternoon between activities or during breaks.
