Event information

Event description

Traditional wildflower grasslands are now among the rarest habitats in England. They are delicate things – vulnerable to changes in farming practice, and have declined

Only 3% of England’s wildflower grasslands survived the intensification of farming between the 1930s – 1980s, and the remnants in the South West are considered particularly important.

Magdalen Farm has some of these remnant ancient grasslands, carefully stewarded by our ecologist trustee Peter Darch, who will be giving a guided walk on both Tuesday 4th July (optional lunch) and Saturday 8th July from 2pm to 3:30pm. (Weather Permitting)

Included in the walk will be the 12-acre meadow Maypole Close, supposed site of local Mayday celebrations in times past, which is being slowly restored to its previous wildflower-rich condition.
