Event description

How have plants evolved to grow with fire?
Visual ecologist, Aviva Reed, will facilitate an immersive afternoon of story and, art exploring plants and their special relationship with fire. In this ecological drawing session we will study fire adaptions in plants.
Participants will use watercolour and charcoal to identify and communicate the sentimental relationship between plants and fire, life and death, and investigate the fascinating mechanisms plants have evolved to survive. At the completion of this workshop, participants will have a richer understanding of plants- fire relationships and have learnt watercolour techniques that evoke not only representations of plants but also the story of plants and fire.
Aviva Reed is an award winning illustrator, artist & scientist. She has been working in this field for over a decade, within tertiary, corporate and school environments. She refers to herself as a visual ecologist, someone who makes visible the invisible, through context, story and illustration.
