The Ted Lewis Group’s objective is Group is to make known the work, life and times of novelist, musician and artist, Edward Alfred (Ted) Lewis (1940 to 1982).

 

Ted Lewis was brought up in Barton from the age of 6 and attended Barton Grammar School where he was mentored by poet and novelist, Henry Treece. He qualified in graphic art at Hull College of Art and Design (1956 to 1960) and became an illustrator and animation supervisor on The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine.

 

Famous for his story, which was made into the seminal film, Get Carter starring Michael Caine, Lewis wrote 8 other novels, three of which have much local flavour. He played in Hull’s Unity Jazz Band from 1958.
