Event description

"Powerful", "Informative", "Thought provoking and interesting"

For staff members with lived LGBT+ experience to consider what it means to be themselves in the University, and reflect on the ways they could be an LGBT+ role model

Places limited to 6 participants.

The sessions are linked, and include:

  Session 1 Wednesday 14 November 1330 – 1630

  • Being yourself in the workplace.
  • What a role model is (and isn’t).

  Session 2 Wednesday 28th November 1330 – 1630

  • Identifying and overcoming the barriers to being a role model.
  • A “hot seat” exercise, to support participants to commit to an achievable action.

Please book on both sessions seperately (option for this included in the booking process)

The sessions are facilitated by Steve Yorkstone, and content is based, with permission, on the Stonewall Scotland Role Model programme, see: http://www.stonewallscotland.org.uk/get-involved/get-involved-ind-and-comm/stonewall-scotland-lgbt-role-models-programme.

One Stonewall proposed working definition of a positive and inclusive role model is:

“A role model is aware of their potential to influence others and intentionally exercises that influence for the purpose of helping to create a more inclusive workplace.”
