Let's Talk About Brexit

A chance to have your say, influence decision-making at a national level and ensure that the rights of older people in Scotland are taken into account in Brexit negotiations

Event description

Following on from our successful Brexit Town Hall Conversations earlier this year, the ALLIANCE will be embarking on a second consultation examining the potential impact of Brexit on older people in Scotland.

The consultation will:

  • Look at the impact of Brexit on older people;
  • Reach out to seldom heard voices;
  • And hear from those who care for older people.

In partnership with the International Foundation of Integrated Care and Scottish Care, we will be attending several national events and conferences to hold a series of pop-up workshops giving staff who support older people, health and social care professionals and third sector representatives a chance to have their say on Brexit. We also intend to communicate with sheltered housing and social hubs for older people, in order to shine a light on the seldom heard voices in the communities of Scotland.

This will culminate in a final conference on the 5th December at the Lighthouse in Glasgow. We will be joined by the International Foundation of Integrated Care and Scottish Care on the day.

We are now able to announce that Graeme Dey MSP (the Minister for Parliamentary Business and Veterans) will also be speaking for us on the day.

Four questions will be asked throughout the day’s discussions:

  • How do you envisage older people will be affected by Brexit?
  • What matters most to you, and to the people you care for?
  • What information would be helpful – and in what format?
  • What would help give voice to your ideas and concerns?

This is an opportunity for you to have your say, influence decision-making at a national level and ensure that the rights of older people in Scotland are taken into account in Brexit negotiations.

A light lunch will be provided on the day for all attendees.
