Ensuring the effective use of funds available to a school for the benefit of its pupils is one of the most important tasks for any governing board.

This course aims to:

 Explain the role of governors who serve on a finance committee (or its equivalent)

 Consider the governors role setting the annual budget, agreeing financial priorities, medium term financial planning, monitoring expenditure against the budget, variations to spending plans including virements, financial systems and procedures, delegated authority to the head teacher, and financial bench-marking.
