The Anatomy Museum (The Hunterian)

Event description

***SOLD OUT!*** However, the talk at the beginning is a drop-in session so you are still welcome to attend that part of the event. If you join our waiting list we'll let you know of any cancellations.

Join historian Frances Osis and medical illustrator Catherine MacRobbie to experience this unique opportunity for anatomical drawing in the collections. The Hunterian is home to thousands of anatomical specimens, made and collected by the 18th century anatomist William Hunter. Learn about the histories of these fascinating and sometimes gruesome preparations from Frances, who will be talking about her recent Specimen Stories project; then get involved by creating your own illustrations of the specimens, assisted by Catherine. Basic sketching supplies and a refreshment break will be provided.

This event accompanies the online exhibition Specimen Stories, a Hunterian Associate Project which highlights the individual narratives found in the anatomy collection. You can view the exhibition here: https://specimenstories.wordpress.com

The lower floor of anatomy museum, where the event takes place, is accessible via a ramp and manual doors. Please note that, if you wish to also browse the museum, the upper galleries are only accessible via a narrow set of stairs. Due to the nature of this event, some material may be upsetting. No photography by attendees will be permitted. For any further information on accessibility please contact the event organiser.
