Phacelia Ensemble –

The Phacelia Ensemble gives voice to the idea of ‘Concertos in Miniature’ and performs piano concertos transcribed by Elisabeth Streichert to present the audience with a more intimate sound experience.

Based in London, the players are members of this country’s leading orchestras and chamber music groups, including the London Philharmonia Orchestra and the Orchestra of English National Opera. Recently, they have performed at the Bloomsbury Festival in London as well as been featured by Classic FM.

Marcio is the music director of the Grange Choral Society, Hastings Philharmonic, Woodhouse Opera Festival and Ensemble OrQuesta. As a singer (baritone and countertenor) Marcio has recently performed the roles of Arnalta in L'Incoronazione di Poppea, Mercurio in La Calisto, Colas in Bastien et Bastienne, La Haine in Armide, Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas and Aristone in Xerse. "Marcio da Silva has made a real impact on the musical life of Hastings and his choice of works was vindicated last night not only in the high quality he creates but the very large audience he attracts. Marcio will be joined by American pianist and harpsichordist Stephanie Gurga who has featured internationally as a soloist, recitalist, accompanist, and chamber musician, on harpsichord, fortepiano, and modern piano. She has been on the staff as accompanist at the Haute Ecole de Musique Vaud Valais Fribourg, and the Conservatoire de Lausanne, Switzerland, since 2010.

Niel du Preez - piano

Niel du Preez has inspired live and radio audiences in the UK, continental Europe and his native South Africa with his expressive and poetic solo playing, performances with leading orchestras and collaborations with chamber musicians. We are delighted that he will be returning to Winchelsea to perform this recital featuring the full gamut of piano repertoire.

Hungarian flautist Zsuzsa Vámosi-Nagy makes regular appearances as a renowned solo artist and chamber music performer across Europe and the US. As well as her successful solo career, Zsuzsa is also an active orchestral player: she has been principal flautist of the Ventoscala Symphony Orchestra since 2003 and has played regularly as a guest principal flautist in the Fundación Excelentia Santa Cecilia Symphony Orchestra of Madrid since September 2013. She will be joined by South African born pianist Anne Marshall who has established herself as a leading accompanist based in Rye. This varied recital will explore the music of French, English and Hungarian composers.

Anna Wiedemann was born 1995 in Kempten, Germany. She started to play the violin when she was only 8 years old. Recently she has performed with the Philharmonic Orchestra, Würzburg and the Bavarian State Orchestra Munich. Since 2018 she has been concertmaster of the student orchestra "Junge Deutsche Philharmonie" and is a member of the "Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra". She will be joined by her accompanist Jonas Gleim.

An evening of Jazz

Charlie Watkins – Clarinet and his band That's A Peculiar.

Winchelsea Arts chills to the sounds Jazz for the very first time.  We are delighted to be able to programme this exceptional ensemble of Jazz musicians. The concert will be formed of two halves: the first will be a duo between clarinettist Charlie Watkins and pianist Jay Verma, and the second will be Charlie's band That's A Peculiar. The evening promises to be varied and exciting, as the musicians draw on a wealth of influences to make music that is refreshingly new and different, in addition to performing a range of Jazz standards. It will feature groove-based free Jazz performed by clarinet, trumpet, bass and drums.
