It is developed from the ground-up on a particular platform and centralized codebase. Data is shielded by installing agent software on the physical or virtual hosts, which use an OS or application local APIs to protect data in a steady state. Production data developed by the agent software on customer computers and backed up by a data manager, the MediaAgent, to disk, tape, or cloud storage. All data management action in the environment is tracked by a centralized server, the CommServe, and can be controlled by administrators by a central user interface. End-users can reach protected data using web browsers and mobile devices.
