Purposeful Writing

Purposeful Writing

Tuesday, 13th July 2021
Kyra Training Centre

Event description

We are delighted to have James Durran here back at KYRA  and can’t wait for him to work with teachers from across the county to share his approaches to teaching writing in primary schools.

This highly practical day will explore a range of approaches to the teaching of writing, focusing on the design of teaching sequences which integrate reading, writing and the explicit teaching of grammar. It will suggest ways to build children’s explicit knowledge about language and text, while ensuring that they are developing as confident, independent writers, in a culture which values enjoyment.

James will share his expertise focusing on the following areas and questions:

  • How can we Frame success criteria to make writing purposeful for children
  • How can our children be authentic writers?
  • Consider the integration of reading and writing. How can our children read as writers and write as readers?
  • How can we think strategically about how writing can develop through the ages and stages? How ill this affect our curriculum and sequencing?
