This training session is aimed at parents of autistic children or those with social communication challenges. 

The session may also be useful to professionals who work with and support autistic children and their families.

This webinar will be delivered by Caroline Bulmer our current Head of Nursery.  Caroline has over 15 years experience working with children and young people on the autism spectrum across a range of services, including independent education, local authority and respite services.  

The session will introduce and explore the following topics:

  • Common barriers faced by autistic children when starting to use the toilet;
  • Strategies to help adapt for and/or overcome these barriers;
  • Setting realistic toileting goals.
Resources (including visuals, books and equipment examples), activities and practical strategies will be shared with a focus on how and when to start with toileting as well as specific toileting problems experienced by this group such as recognising bladder and bowel sensations, overcoming anxiety about using the toilet and learning how to wipe)
