CAMRA's New Beer Styles – The What and the Why

CAMRA's New Beer Styles – The What and the Why

A chance to learn about the changes to CAMRA's beer styles

Friday, 13th August 2021 at 3:30pm

Event description

CAMRA is only too aware that beer styles in the UK aren't static. You only have to look at the growth of American Pale Ales, Golden Ales and foreign beer styles such as Sours to be aware of what a great time it is to be a beer drinker. To reflect these changes, but also to continue to campaign for endangered traditional beers, CAMRA has reviewed the styles and categories they will be using for judging the prestigious Champion Beer of Britain from next year.

This online session is open to members and non members and will help you to understand the new styles so that you can decide which style category a beer should  be put in. It will also help members when it comes to the online voting for beers in CAMRA's Champion Beer of Britain in September.

There is no charge for the session but, if you can afford it, please consider making a donation to CAMRA to help them continue to provide the platform to host these events.

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Explain why we have beer styles
  • Distinguish between different beers and allocate them to the new beer style categories

In line with CAMRA’s New Styles

We will cover:

  • Why we have beer styles
  • The new beer styles and the reason for the changes
  • Taste 5 beers and allocate them to the new styles

You will need to purchase 5 beers

Session will last about  2.5 hours

Participants are asked to purchase the following beers that are generally available from supermarkets. In certain cases (beers 1 & 5),you can choose from a selection; in others (beers 2,3,4), you are asked to have a specific beer, which has been chosen to prompt discussion.
