Event description

Date: Tuesday 15th November 2022

Time: 16:00 - 20:00 pm

Venue: Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE2 1XE

About this event...

Come and join us at our next Regional CPD event - what is more, you won't have to take half a day off from work for this one!

This event is open to all SyI membership grades - including students.

Find out what's going on at the SyI, and let's get to know each other. This event will be hosted by Peter Houlis CSyP FSyI and Jason Boyce from Assa Abloy.

If you are new to us then please don't worry if you don't know anyone yet - you soon will and we'll be on hand to make you feel welcome and introduce you around. This is the perfect way to meet other members. We know it can be difficult to get started with your networking, but we're a friendly bunch and we hope you'll soon get to know us. You'll be given a name badge but we suggest you bring a supply of business cards to swap!

Even if you have been a member for a while, come and catch up with other members who would love to hear about your experiences with the SyI.

There'll be a drink on arrival, followed by a few speaker sessions - and for the ones who would like to extend their evening, we will be going to a local pub afterwards.

Confirmed speakers:

Pat Jefferies

Pat has worked as part of the ABLOY team in the UK for 26 years and the locking industry for over 30 years.  Pat is the Technical Expert for BSI at CEN for Electric Locking and has pioneered in the Access Control electric locking market developing compliant solutions for fire and escape applications.

Pat is the founder of the Academy at ABLOY, and responsible for developing this concept over the last 11 years. The presentation will discuss how compliant locking solutions form an integral part of any Electronic Access Control Solution design and how the Abloy Academy is helping to educate the security industry on the latest standards for fire and escape applications.

Paul Brady

In this talk Alan will cover the theoretical links between the security and other disciplines, most notably emergency planning and health and safety, and how they are essential subsets of the broader discipline that is risk management. He will then show how this works in practice, using evacuation and lockdown as an example.
