Callum Morton is an emerging Americana artist based in Glasgow. His passion for the mandolin has taken him on journeys around the UK, Europe, and the USA. Callum Moved to Glasgow to study mandolin at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where he pursued a mix of Classical music, under Barbara Pommerenke, and Scottish Traditional music, under Laura-Beth Salter. In 2018 he was accepted onto the Erasmus+ exchange scheme and spent a semester studying at East Tennessee State University with Alison Krauss and Union Station alumnus, Adam Steffey. Upon returning to Glasgow, Callum continued his studies including lessons in world music, improvisation, and transcription, with Innes White.

After graduating, Callum stayed in Glasgow and formed two bands, The Auldeners and The Fountaineers representing his joint love of Scottish and Americana music. With these bands he’s toured all over Scotland and achieved national recognition on BBC Scotland’s The Quay Sessions. Despite lockdown restrictions in 2021, The Fountaineers became official virtual showcase artists at the International Bluegrass Music Association WOB Ramble. Their appearance at IBMA earned them spots at several major European Bluegrass Festivals in 2022.

That same year, The Fountaineers released their debut self-titled EP to critical acclaim and were also featured on prominent US Bluegrass publication, Bluegrass Today.  In January 2023, The Fountaineers became the first ever Bluegrass band to join the roster of the prestigious Live Music Now Scotland scheme, which will see them perform Bluegrass music in out-reach venues around Scotland until 2027.

Callum is currently leading his own bluegrass endeavour, The Callum Morton Band and intends to release an album of all original music, drawing from his years of studying the mandolin. Callum has also been teaching privately since 2019 and lead a mandolin workshop at the 2022 inaugural Kirkstyle Stomp festival, as well as appearing as guest mandolin tutor at the Glasgow Folk Workshop. Callum enjoys exploring various stylistic approaches to the mandolin and aims to reveal certain fundamental techniques that develop playing in an playful and engaging way.

This year's workshops have been made available through the generous support of the British Bluegrass Music Association.

Workshops are included free of charge for Weekend Pass ticket holders.

Please note: Avoid booking fees and charges by paying on the door for workshop events.
