Helsinki can easily be reached from anywhere in the world. Helsinki-Vantaa Airport is the main airport of Finland. The airport is situated 19 kilometres from the centre of Helsinki.
Airport transport
The public transportation operator serves the route Airport – Helsinki City Centre with I and P trains or by bus 615. The journey takes about 30 minutes and costs 5.50 € (regional ticket). The timetable can be found here. The I and P trains operate on a ’ring railway’ route, with both terminals at the Central Railway Station.
Helsinki-Vantaa Airport is also served by Finnair City buses with connections to the centre of Helsinki every 20 minutes. The bus departs from the Terminal 2 Platfrom 10 and Terminal 1 Platform 11. The journey takes about 30 minutes and costs 6,30 €. The timetable can be found here.
From the central railway station (’Rautatientori’ in finnish), take tram No. 4 or 4T from lasiplatsi stop to Tove Janssonin p. stop. The Marina congress Centre is located just next to the stop. Alternatively, it takes about 20 min walk from the central railway station to the venue or the conference hotels.
Taxis are always available at the airport. The fare to the city will vary depending on time of day, number of passengers and distance, but the minimuim price is 20 to 30 €. It is also possible to order special Airport Taxis (yellow minibuses), which are shared by several passengers and are therefore considerably cheaper than regular taxis. The price depends on the total number of passengers going to the same destination. Taxis can be ordered at the company’s service point at the airport.
The conference takes place near the city center. Public transport is easy to use in Helsinki, even if you are not familiar with the city. Public transportation includes buses, trams and metro as well as commuter trains and the ferry to Suomenlina. The journey planner is a helpful tool to find the shortest and/or the most convenient route while moving around the city of Helsinki.
In the public transport system you can travel with single tickets (Helsinki internal or regional) or with a tourist ticket (Helsinki internal or regional). Single tickets can be purchased from the driver and from ticket machines. A Helsinki internal ticket costs 3.20 € from the driver and 2.70 € from a machine.The Tourist Ticket is available for unlimited use on public transport (metro, train, tram, bus, ferry service) for 1, 3, or 5 days and costs from 8 to 24 €. Paper Tourist tickets (valid from the moment of purchase) can be purchased from various places e.g. ticket machines, drivers and conductors.
