Stress in the workplace costs the UK economy billions each year in lost productivity, and it costs individuals dearly in terms of health, relationships, well being and quality of life.

What does stress cost your business?

Supporting employee well being is good for business. A European wide study by Deloitte in 2013 found that Return on Investment in employee mental well being could be up to €13.62 for every euro spent.

How would your organisation benefit from happier, healthier staff?

Staff who feel stressed, exhausted, unhappy and undervalued will not be working at their best, are more likely to take time off from work due to ill health, to exhibit signs of ‘presenteeism’, and to seek more satisfactory employment elsewhere, or to strike out on their own. Organisations who demonstrate that they value their staff gain hugely in terms of loyalty, effectiveness and reduced absence rates.

As a manager or team leader, you bear the biggest burden of stress, with the buck stopping at your door and the crucial decisions resting on your shoulders. While you may be under the greatest amount of stress, it is important that you take care of your mental and physical health, and that you model good self care practices.

There are a wide range of practices and concepts that can be brought into your day, and your team leadership, that can reduce stress, develop resilience, and counteract the harmful impact that stress can have on both individual and organisational well being.

In this 2 hour workshop run by Yoga teacher and wellness coach Esther Nagle, you will be taught a range of skills and given a practical toolbox that will enable you to reduce your own stress, and to support staff within your organisation to manage theirs.

We will explore

  • What is stress, how does it affect you personally, and how might it impact your team?
  • What is well being, and how is it affected by stress?
  • A look at the BREATHE Method, a model created by Esther Nagle for balanced, healthy living
  • Practical tools to manage physical tension caused by too much sitting, and stress
  • Strategies to quieten the mind, and calm the body to ensure better sleep
  • Tips to help you live with greater work/life balance
  • And tips and tools to help you disseminate this information to your team members and colleagues

You will receive a workbook which we will use through the session and which also contains space for further reflection and follow up ideas to deepen and embed your learning. You will also have the chance to arrange a follow up session to revisit and expand the practices covered.

Feedback for previous sessions

We recently worked with Esther on a Leadership programme we developed for emerging leaders from across the globe, for our client, Menzies Aviation. Recognising that stress, depression and mental health are key business challenges in every industry, we asked Esther to deliver a wellbeing session, to help our participants see how they can effectively lead themselves and others in a more holistic way. Esther’s session was planned in accordance with the brief we gave her, but she was able to expertly adapt to suit the needs of the participants on the day. The session provided much food for thought for the participants, gave them valuable tools that they can take back to their teams and their own lives, and enabled everyone to relax and let go of tension and stress. Esther was professional while being warm, engaging and approachable and made all the participants feel at ease and safe in the space she created. As a leadership coach and mentor, I saw an immediate change in peoples’ perceptions of wellbeing as a business priority and was impressed to hear our participants continuing discussions about wellbeing days after Esther’s session. I would never have imagined the impact that a half day session on wellbeing could have on a group of senior leaders, and I am actively seeking ways to engage Esther with other clients.
