SOCIAL Centre for Doctoral Training: Project Writing Event 2019

Thursday December 5th – Friday December 6th 2019
The Merchant's House of Glasgow

Event description

On Thursday 5th and Friday 6th December 2019, the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Socially Intelligent Artificial Agents (SOCIAL CDT) is hosting a Project Writing Event to bring together experts in artificial intelligence. The event is an opportunity for an interdisciplinary mix of academics from the University of Glasgow and industry partners to network and create project proposals for a new cohort of applicants to SOCIAL CDT joining in 2020.

Attendees are invited to attend both days of the event to maximise exposure to new opportunities (or a Thursday or Friday session only) through a full programme of introductions, networking and project writing. Please also join us for a complimentary dinner on Thursday 5th December at 6.30pm, open to those attending any day of activities.

The Centre for Doctoral Training model aligns university-based postgraduate studies with industry-inspired objectives to train researchers in a broad range of research and project management skills within in niche field of specialisation. To achieve this, potential applicants to the SOCIAL CDT programme select a project designed through consultation with academics and industry at this event.

The CDT in Socially Intelligent Artificial Agents (http://social-cdt.org) is a partnership between the University of Glasgow (School of Computing Science, School of Psychology, Institute of Neuroscience and Psychology, School of Business, School of Critical Studies and School of Engineering) and 16 industrial partners (BRAIQ, Context-Scout, Dimensional Imaging, Dyson, FLASH Robotics, Furhat Robotics, Micro-phonics, Microsoft, Neurodata-Lab, PolyAI, Qumodo, Rakuten, Schlumberger, SICSA, Telefonica, The Data Lab). The CDT will train the next generation of experts in Artificial Social Intelligence, the AI domain aimed at making machines capable of interacting with their users like people do with one another.
