Hillingdon Summer Cycle Coaching for Young People

As part of our ongoing commitment to encourage cycling in a fun and safe environment, the Hillingdon Slipstreamers have partnered with Hillingdon Council to deliver free cycling sessions to young people as part of their Summer of Cycling community initiative.

All coaching sessions will be delivered by British Cycling qualified coaches from Hillingdon Slipstreamers Cycling Club, and will run from Monday the 23rd to Friday 27th August, inclusive. Sessions will be focussed on foundation and improver skills, where participants will be taught the skills and confidence to enjoy their bikes in a safe, fun and friendly environment. The week will end with a family session on Friday, where parents/ guardians are welcome to book a space and join in on the last day.

The sessions are free, however spaces are limited and you must book in advance, using this form, to secure a slot. Scroll down for details on how to book. However, before you book, keep reading to ensure you are clear on the rules of participation and what you need to bring along to the sessions. 

Rules of Participation - The Important Stuff

      Participant Safety

      • All participants must follow Coaches’ instructions at all times.
      • Under no circumstances is a participant under the age of 18 to leave the circuit unless with a parent/ guardian.
      • All participants MUST wear a helmet and gloves. This will be made available to you.
      • All participants should wear clothes suitable clothes – visit this page for guidance
      • Not eating or drinking properly before and after your cycle causes fatigue and dehydration that can be easily avoided! So be sure to eat a proper breakfast before you leave home, pack a few energy snacks such as a flapjack, a banana or a granola bar; and make sure you have plenty of water, especially if it’s sunny and warm!

      Parental / Guardian Support Required

      Parents are expected to volunteer during the sessions as a condition of booking. This is important for safety and encouragement of young people while they are enjoying their lessons.

      • At least one parent / guardian must remain present throughout the session
      • Parents / guardians will be asked to assist with accompanying young people to the toilets and providing refreshments throughout the day
      • The clubhouse will be available during the day so you are welcome to bring along tea / coffee and enjoy lunch inside

      Participant and Parent Conduct

      • All participants in the programme will treat each other and the Coaches with respect at all times. This includes respecting ability, gender and culture.
      • Bullying is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. This includes distracting or deliberately provoking another participant.
      • Swearing, inappropriate language or any other form of verbal abuse is not acceptable.
      • Smoking and alcohol are not allowed during sessions. The use of any illegal drug is prohibited.

      Please treat others as you expect to be treated.


      What To Bring With You:

      • Your own bicycle, helmet and gloves if you have this. If not, this will be made available to you.
      • Clothes must not be too loose or these will get caught in chains/spokes!
      • Bring lots of water, snacks and a packed lunch - you will get hungry!
      • Enthusiasm and FUN are mandatory - don't forget these!


      Booking Process

      Attendance is by pre-booking only. Bookings are on a first come, first served basis. To secure your child's place, simply follow the steps as noted below and please ensure you enter your details accurately.

      • Step 1: Ensure you have read ALL the information provided on the booking pages below BEFORE you book a place so you are clear on what to expect.

      • Step 2: Once you are clear and happy to proceed, scroll to the top of this page to make your booking. A parent / guardian will need to complete the online form as adult consent is required.

      • Step 3: Select the quantity of "tickets" per number of young people you are booking for and follow the instructions on the screen to complete the booking. One ticket secures one young person's place for the full week. Parents/ Guardians who want to join in on the Friday session should select the Family Member ticket option to secure their space.
      • Step 4: Upon completion, you will receive a confirmation email - please ensure you read this. Double check your email address before you submit your booking – if you enter this incorrectly, your email confirmation will not be delivered.

      If you have booked and need to cancel afterwards, please let us know ASAP and as far in advance as possible so we can free up these slots for other children.
