Brolly Parade 7th November, Mardi Gras

A Brolly Parade is a traditional accompaniment to a festival, often associated with the New Orleans Tradition which gave birth to all the many variations of jazz music enjoyed by fans.

Participation is simplicity itself. Get hold of a favourite umbrella or parasol and decorate it in as distinctive or outlandish way that reflects your character or ambition. Bizarre, cool, sophisticated, formal or traditional.

The Ted Lewis Jazz Festival will accept entries up to 2.30 pm on Saturday 7th November. There is no extra charge but participants or any responsible adult of a child must have a ticket for the 3.30 concert. Participants will be judged by the Mayor of Barton (subject to any more pressing Civic duty that day)\x       during the 3.30 pm Mardi Gras Concert. There is a class for adults and another those under 16 who must be accompanied by an adult. It is a condition of the entry that you consent to being photographed.

During the Mardi Gras concert brollies will process round the Concert Room to music of Ron Burnett (tbone player in Unity Jazz Band with Ted Lewis) in traditional band style to be judged and entertain for a short while.

Prizes will be presented during The Mardi Gras Band Concert with Alan Dickinson which will continue to wow the audience for the rest of the afternoon.

 Dancing is allowed!!
